Squam Lake – July 5, 2006

OK, I did not go fishing today but did go up to the Squam Lakes Science Center with the family. I even backed the truck up to one of the boat ramps like a dork pretending I was launching. My wife laughed her azz off.

Was a great family day though and we went to Squam Lake Bait and Tackle for some lures I needed. Wow, this guy is great. Kind of a small shop but he is willing to share information and has the right tackle for what I was looking for.

Merrimack River / Joppa Flats – July 4th, 2006

Hit the river again and this time brought Nelson for our 3 day fishing marathon (I’m wondering if my wife knows how nice she is giving me all these hall passes for this?).

We were on the water by 5AM and fished for about 5-6 hours. High tide was at around 6:30 or so. 1st spot we pulled up on we got a couple of small fish. 2nd spot produced some better fish but soon a flock of boats drifted our way. Busting fish on the surface got us pretty excited as well as a few 24-25 inch fish.

Total tally for the day Nelson for 27 fish and I got 47. I am proud to report that about 1/2 of all of my fish were on the fly. The rest were all sluggo fish between the two of us.

Near the end of our day as the outgoing tide was ripping off of the flats, the fish were responding to only a weighted sluggo on a jig head.

Nelson had a blast and now wants to buy into the sluggo stocks that I have hoarded up in my basement as overstock.

Powdermill Pond – July 3rd, 2006

Went to Powdermill pond in search of some hog largemouth bass. We caught everything but a bass. We were off the water by noon and I was completely upset over the lack of bass.

We stopped at Haunted lake on the way home for a 1/2 dozen quick and ez largies just to get it out of my system.

I will likely not return to Powdermill for a while. Why I was so upset was not because I was not catching any rather Nelson was not either. We should have gone to Northwood lake as planned. At least I learned that much.

This report is a good example that I post the bad with the good.
